The case of the mysterious squeaking noise

Oh, this is just too rich not to share! I've been hearing this intermittent, almost indescribable squeaking noise at my computer all morning. It's been driving me bonkers. At first I thought it was my nose, actually, since I'm a bit stuffed up and it honestly seemed to be coming from that direction. You know, when you're stuffed up and it starts to clear, sometimes you hear a little squeak? I blew my nose twice but kept hearing the noise, very intermittently.

So then I started going through all the other things the mysterious noise might be. Animal? I have two cats, so it's very doubtful that I have mice. I actually got up and went into the living room to make sure Reepicheep, my dwarf hamster, was still safely snoozing in his cage. He poked his head out of his little hut but went right back to sleep, since I didn't have a treat for him.

Computer? Uh oh. Soon I was panicking, thinking it was coming from one of my hard drives. It almost sounded a bit like a type of hard drive failure. That's all I need right now. I sat on the ground next to my computer with my ear pressed to the darn thing trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. It never once happened while I was down there. I'd get up and sit back down and start working again, and I'd hear it AGAIN! Got back on the floor to listen, never happened. Did that several times.

Grandpa Pederson's old thermos. With 78% more squeakage!

Finally, I happened to lean over to stretch and it happened again. My head was right next to the thermos of coffee that is sitting on my desk right next to my monitor, when it SQUEAKED. I burst out laughing halfway through a yawn, opened the thermos, and VOILA! A squeak, just like the ones I had been hearing for the past three hours. The seal wasn't closed all the way and just a little bit of steam from the coffee was eeking out every once in awhile.

This is my Grandpa Pederson's old thermos that was given to me with some of his old camping gear years ago. I love it. It keeps coffee beautifully hot, and holds just enough for me. It reminds me of early morning fishing trips, camping, and Grandpa's endless stories.

Pouring another steaming cup of coffee, I sat back and laughed a joyfully rich, gut shaking laugh. I think I just got trolled by my Grandpa. Miss you, you odd little man. You were always a little bit crazy but then we all are. Love you very much.
